    Biographical notes
Founded in Paris in the late 1900s by Michel and Jules Nics, ironworkers of Hungarian origin, the Nics Frères workshop was renowned for wrought iron hammered entirely by hand. Its consoles, gates, railings and lighting combine curved lines, palmettes and stylised scrolls in the emerging Art Deco aesthetic. In 1925 the brothers made the ironwork for a hair salon designed by Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann.
