Biographical notes
A pupil of the Académie Humbert, Georges Lepape met Paul Poiret at the 1910 Salon d’Automne and illustrated ‘Les Choses de Paul Poiret’ (1911) for him. A contributor to the Gazette du bon ton, Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, he developed a style that anticipated the ligne claire, drawing on Orientalism and the Ballets Russes.
