    Biographical notes
Founded in Nancy in 1878 by Jean Daum, the glassworks rose to artistic prominence under his sons Auguste and Antonin, who set up an art department in 1891. Jacques Gruber and then Henri Bergé, chief decorator from 1897 to 1932, shaped its naturalistic repertoire through acid etching, while Amalric Walter developed pâte de verre there from 1904. At the 1900 Exposition Universelle, Daum shared the grand prize for art glass with Gallé.
