    Biographical notes
Born in 1900 in the Gironde, Jean Piaubert studied at the Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux and moved to Paris in 1922, where he attended the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. Noticed by Paul Poiret and close to Friesz, Dufy and Derain, he turned to abstraction and showed his first non-figurative works at the Galerie Creuze in 1946, then at Denise René. He is one of the figures of postwar French abstraction.
