    Wilhelm Schmid

    1892-1971

A Swiss painter born in Remigen, Wilhelm Schmid first trained as an architect before moving to Berlin in 1912, where he joined the Novembergruppe. He worked in Paris from 1924 to 1931, then took refuge in Ticino in 1938 after the Nazis branded his art "degenerate". His painting is close to Magic Realism and New Objectivity.
