Eugène Berman
1899-1972
Born in St Petersburg, Eugene Berman emerged in 1920s Paris as a leading figure of Neo-Romanticism, with his dreamlike architecture and melancholy landscapes. Based in the United States from 1935 to 1957, he also enjoyed a brilliant career as a stage designer for the Metropolitan Opera, the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo and La Scala.
